Tryout FAQs
Tryout FAQs
How much is the tryout fee?
Tryout registration is free.
Can parents stay and watch tryouts?
We ask that parents check in their son/daughter and leave. Having parents on the touchline during tryouts creates unnecessary pressure and hinders player performance.
What if my child is going to miss tryouts but still wants to play with Manitou F.C.?
You should register for tryouts. Within the registration, there is a question about attending. Please explain in the comment section why you will not be attending. We cannot place you on a team unless we have received your tryout registration.
What should I wear to their tryouts?
Most important is the ‘Player ID Number’ given to you at check-in. Also, you should dress appropriately by wearing shorts, shirt, soccer socks, and shin guards.
What happens following tryouts?
Following the final tryout, Manitou FC staff and evaluators meet to discuss players and finalize age group rosters. Rosters are then submitted to our club administrator who then sends a personal registration link via email to each player. Families have 48 hours to accept or decline a roster spot after the registration has been sent out.
Can my son/daughter play up an age group?
To tryout in an older age group, you will need the approval of our Sporting Director. Prior to tryouts, please send an email to sportingdirector@manitoufc.org explaining your request. Requests should be sent when registering for tryouts.
GK Questions?
Information about the process to fill the position of GK’s on all age group teams. Please note that GK’s have a separate session during tryouts in addition to the team times.
- U9/U10: All players in these two age groups will rotate through positions, including Goalkeeper. Players who have an interest in playing goal should also indicate this on their tryout registration form.
- U11/U12: Players interested in playing in goal should try out in their age group GK tryouts. Players may request to play both as a field player and a goalkeeper in these ages. Orange level team players may desire to play only in goal.
- U13 & Older: Teams at U13 and older will roster a full-time dedicated GK. Goalkeepers trying out must participate in scheduled team tryouts for their age group and in the accompanying GK sessions. If a scheduling conflict exists between a team and goalkeeper session, please report to the GK session.
My child is a multi-sport athlete – can they still play soccer?
Manitou FC works with athletes who play multiple sports. The process for managing this is determined on an individual basis depending upon each athlete’s commitments. We also work with each team coach to manage this on a team-by-team basis as well.

PLACEMENT PROCESS FOR U8 – U10:
Placement observation processes are essential for ensuring that athletes are placed in the appropriate levels of competition and age group based on their skills, physical and emotional readiness, and athletic ability. Players who have not yet registered for Future Manitou’s program and are still considering participation in Young Legends Plus or Young Legends, as well as new players to the club, are encouraged to participate in the placement observations for these age groups.
